Flagstaff Masonry Workshop 012520Our seventh Flagstaff Masonry Workshop was held at Block-Lite on January 25th.  This workshop had over 40 participants in attendance! Our largest group to date!  Most of the new participants were NAU construction tech students who were eager to receive hands-on instruction.  NAU’s instructor, Tim Lonegan,  was very impressed with the quality of the hands-on instruction and explained his past students had never had an experience like this.  He was very grateful for opportunity to participate in the workshop and committed to attending many more moving forward.  We will continue to build relationships and expand the Flagstaff workshops. 

Our next masonry workshop will be held Saturday, March 28th 8 am-12 pm at Block-Lite.

Flagstaff Masonry Workshop September 28, 2019

The Arizona Masonry Council hosted our third Flagstaff Masonry Workshop at Block-Lite.  The goal of this four hour workshop is to increase exposure of our craft as well as provide training and resources to all interested prospects.  This workshop had 21 participants in attendance which included both returning and new participants. The returning participants were graded on their projects.  Each score set the basis as to whether they would advance to the next level project.  All new participants started out practicing spreading mortar and utilizing the trowel technique.

We continue to receive a great deal of positive feedback about the workshop and the instructors. We are on track to continue hosting monthly masonry workshops.  We will continue to incorporate additional training that will provide a broader knowledge of all aspects of the masonry trade.

Our next masonry workshop will be held Saturday October 26th 8 am – 12 pm at Block-Lite.

Upcoming masonry workshop dates: Saturday Nov. 23rd and Saturday Dec. 21st.

Flagstaff Masonry Workshop – August 24, 2019

On Saturday, August 24th the Arizona Masonry Council hosted our second Flagstaff Masonry Workshop at Block-Lite.  The goal of this four hour workshop is to increase exposure of our craft, provide training and resources to all interested prospects.  This workshop had 10 returning participants in attendance.  Each participant advanced to their next level and completed construction of their chosen project with the constructive help of our instructors.

We would like to give a special thank you to Ron Polder with RPM Masonry who came out to support the workshop and jumped right in to help all the participants build their projects correctly. 

We continue to receive a great deal of positive feedback about the workshop and the instructors.

Come join us for Flagstaff’s first Masonry Workshop. Hands-on instruction will be given by a certified Journeyman Mason. Mason tenders currently working in the field and high school/college students interested in pursuing a career can learn how to spread mortar, lay to line and build leads. Masons can improve their skills by learning new systems and techniques of their trade. 

Masonry Workshops will be held one Saturday a month for 4 hours per class and include a combination of hands-on and classroom instruction. Details to follow!

Here are some of the topics that will be covered in the monthly workshops over the next several months:

  • Proper use and care of masonry tools
  • Spreading mortar
  • Laying to the line

Trainees must come with the following tools, attire and personal protective equipment.

  • Tools – trowel, 2 ft and 4 ft levels, jointer, tape measure, brush, string line, line block, hammer, tuck pointer
  • Personal Protective Equipment – hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, work boots, long-sleeve shirt, jeans/work pants
