The 26th Annual Excellence in Masonry Architectural Awards banquet honored this year's finest at the Phoenix Airport Marriott on September 22, 2017. Eleven projects were recognized for their outstanding masonry design, workmanship and creativity with the use of brick, block or stone.
This year's jury panel came from the state of Texas. Dan Wigodsky, Principal, Wigodsky & Associates Architects, LLC., San Antonio, Texas was the jury chair. Darrell Vickers, Vice President for Architecture with CP&Y also served on the jury and participated in the awards presentation. An award was presented to each recognized project's owner, architectural firm(s), a structural engineering firm, general contractor, masonry supplier and masonry contractor.
This year's Gold Trowel winners (the top honor) were Ghost Wash House in the Residential category and Arizona State University, Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law in the Non-Residential category.
The Annual Excellence in Masonry Architectural Awards program is sponsored by the Arizona Masonry Guild, Inc. Established in 1958, the non-profit organization is celebrating 59 years of service to the masonry industry in Arizona. The Guild would like to thank all of its sponsors, who without the event would not have been a success.
The Guild and its members have played a significant role in economic development, new product and construction standards, enhanced safety policies and increased energy efficiency of masonry products. It has also been on the forefront of developing and implementing statewide education seminars for the professional community and programs with Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona.
